Dog Training Tips To Correct Malamute Behavior Problems

guilty malamute 300x200 Dog Training Tips To Correct Malamute Behavior ProblemsAlthough your dog can be your best buddy, Malamute behavior problems can often develop into your worst nightmare. If you decide to take on obedience training for your dog but have never had to tackle that type of issue before, you will have your work cut out for you. Your Malamute behavior problems will often make you slightly irritated to extremely anxious.

Training your dog is something you must do if you want to have a good relationship with your animal. If you decide to tackle your Malamute behavior problems on your own, or even if you hire someone else, the training will provide a good foundation to build a close relationship with your pet. If you want to train your dog, follow some of the advice in this article to get a good head start on what you can do to get started.

It’s perfectly natural for dogs to bark, but that doesn’t mean you (or your neighbors) should have to listen to barking all day long. Some dogs bark when they’re left outside by themselves. Dogs left outside for long periods of time are often quite bothersome to anyone who lives nearby or passes by your house. A dog who likes to bark may even be noisy inside the house, such as whenever a person, car or other animal passes by. A bark collar is a tool that can help control unwanted barking. The bark collar will make a noise or deliver a mild shock when the dog barks. This collar does the training for you, and it will work whether people are home or not.

Malamute Behavior Problems Are Correctable

When you take your dog for a walk, does he constantly pull on the leash? This may seem like something you don’t need  to waste energy  worrying about but could turn into a bigger problem then you might think. If your dog was to escape from the leash there are several bad things that could happen, such as getting into trouble with other dogs or having a run in with a vehicle. Malamutes have been trained to pull cargo for people for a very long time. It’s programmed into their DNA. It may take some patience, but they can be taught that this is not acceptable behavior. The most important principle to remember is that you shouldn’t let your dog lead you when you walk him. When your dog starts pulling on the leash, park your feet and do not go any further. Do not continue on until he quits trying to lead.

Begging is very common in all breeds, and is a behavior that you should do your best to discourage. The begging habit often results from extra treats given to puppies to reinforce a desired behavior. This behavior then carries forward when they become adults resulting in an  annoying begging habit. It is not a good idea to encourage behavior like this. This shows that the dog controls the master, and not the other way around. It can also lead to obesity and health problems when the dog overeats, or eats foods that aren’t good for them. Never feed them scraps from the table. The habit of not eating while humans eat is a great way to avoid the begging routine.

Digging is another annoying habit that is programmed into a dogs nature. Digging can often be an extremely destructive behavior not only to the appearance of your lawn, but to the relationship between you and your dog as well. They just don’t seem to understand that you put hours of TLC and often a pile of money into the appearance of your manicured lawn. One  method I’ve found to be quite effective for controlling the digging habit is to fill the hole approximately half way with the dogs own feces, then cover with dirt. They may just dig another hole but it you repeat the process your Malamute will eventually get the idea.

Proper training to correct your Malamute behavior problems is something that you should take very seriously. Dog training is essential to the owner/pet relationship. To avoid unwanted behaviors from developing, or to eliminate ones that exist, be persistent in your efforts to train your dog properly. Expert help is sometimes needed, especially if the problems are bad, but most of the time you can train your dog with techniques that you implement.
