A dog, like a human being, needs essential vitamins and minerals to be strong. They also need attention and proper care.

And, like any human being, dogs can get sick too, and they may require special treatment. Dogs can acquire diseases like any human being. These diseases include heart disease, cancer and even type 1 and type 2 diabetes. That’s right… There are diabetic dogs, and these dogs need <a

These are endocrine diseases that result from defects in the system that produces hormones. Diabetes insipidus is caused by a lack of antidiuretic hormone that controls water resorption in the kidneys. On the other hand, diabetes mellitus is brought about by a deficiency of insulin, the hormone that plays in glucose metabolism in the body. Diabetes mellitus also has 2 types: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is a congenital defect, while Type 2 is a life style disease among dogs. There is another type of diabetes that only happens during canine pregnancy – gestational diabetes. This type of diabetes only occurs in female dogs during pregnancy that is characterized by high blood glucose level during their gestational period.

Type 2 diabetes in dogs, as mentioned, is a lifestyle disease. Minimal nutritional value, high level of sodium in food and inactivity in dogs are the factors that most likely lead to canine diabetes mellitus. Treatment for type 2 diabetes may vary, but a proper diet and exercise is essential in controlling the disease.

How to choose the right diabetic dog food<img

All natural diet – Dogs, before humans tried to breed them, have a diet of raw meat, degenerated vegetables and animal eggs. These “scraps” are a part of their normal diet. When human’s introduced modern dog food manufacturing methods, these have brought about a big change in dogs lifestyles. A natural diet like sardines would provide them with beneficial fatty acids that provide protection against diabetes. Also, adding royal jelly and propolis to the dog’s diet would be helpful.

2.) Stay away from dry dog foods – Dry dog food is made up of carbohydrates and do not have enough moisture to keep your dog’s kidneys healthy. Dry dog food for diabetic dogs should be added with additional, preferably moist, food that are rich in protein and essential fatty acids.

3.) Low Sodium – In choosing the right diabetic dog food, you should look for canned ones that are high in protein and low in Sodium and carbohydrates. It should also be organic and toxin free as dogs with diabetes have a decreased liver function, and an affected immune system that are unable to filter out the additives that are usually found in processed diabetic food.

As in humans, dogs are currently undergoing big lifestyle changes. And these lifestyle changes bring about various diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions. Being a dog’s best friend requires you to go back in track and live a healthy lifestyle, so that the changes in you would be passed on to your dog. If you eat healthy, then your dog with diabetes should eat healthy diabetic dog food too. And if you exercise, bring him with you. Your dog won’t bite, I promise.

Subject: Canine Diabetes

If you enjoyed this content and would like to read more like it...go here: <a

If you decide to take on obedience training for your dog but have never had to tackle that type of issue before, you will have your work cut out for you. Your Malamute behavior problems will often make you slightly irritated to extremely anxious.

Training your dog is something you must do if you want to have a good relationship with your animal. If you decide to tackle your Malamute behavior problems on your own, or even if you hire someone else, the training will provide a good foundation to build a close relationship with your pet. If you want to train your dog, follow some of the advice in this article to get a good head start on what you can do to get started.

It’s perfectly natural for dogs to bark, but that doesn’t mean you (or your neighbors) should have to listen to barking all day long. Some dogs bark when they’re left outside by themselves. Dogs left outside for long periods of time are often quite bothersome to anyone who lives nearby or passes by your house. A dog who likes to bark may even be noisy inside the house, such as whenever a person, car or other animal passes by. A bark collar is a tool that can help control unwanted barking. The bark collar will make a noise or deliver a mild shock when the dog barks. This collar does the training for you, and it will work whether people are home or not.

Malamute Behavior Problems Are Correctable

When you take your dog for a walk, does he constantly pull on the leash? This may seem like something you don’t need to waste energy worrying about but could turn into a bigger problem then you might think. If your dog was to escape from the leash there are several bad things that could happen, such as getting into trouble with other dogs or having a run in with a vehicle. Malamutes have been trained to pull cargo for people for a very long time. It’s programmed into their DNA. It may take some patience, but they can be taught that this is not acceptable behavior. The most important principle to remember is that you shouldn’t let your dog lead you when you walk him. When your dog starts pulling on the leash, park your feet and do not go any further. Do not continue on until he quits trying to lead.

Begging is very common in all breeds, and is a behavior that you should do your best to discourage. The begging habit often results from extra treats given to puppies to reinforce a desired behavior. This behavior then carries forward when they become adults resulting in an annoying begging habit. It is not a good idea to encourage behavior like this. This shows that the dog controls the master, and not the other way around. It can also lead to obesity and health problems when the dog overeats, or eats foods that aren’t good for them. Never feed them scraps from the table. The habit of not eating while humans eat is a great way to avoid the begging routine.

Digging is another annoying habit that is programmed into a dogs nature. Digging can often be an extremely destructive behavior not only to the appearance of your lawn, but to the relationship between you and your dog as well. They just don’t seem to understand that you put hours of TLC and often a pile of money into the appearance of your manicured lawn. One method I’ve found to be quite effective for controlling the digging habit is to fill the hole approximately half way with the dogs own feces, then cover with dirt. They may just dig another hole but it you repeat the process your Malamute will eventually get the idea.

Proper training to correct your Malamute behavior problems is something that you should take very seriously. Dog training is essential to the owner/pet relationship. To avoid unwanted behaviors from developing, or to eliminate ones that exist, be persistent in your efforts to train your dog properly. Expert help is sometimes needed, especially if the problems are bad, but most of the time you can train your dog with techniques that you implement.

Subject: Malamute Behavior Problems

If you enjoyed this content and would like to read more like it...go here: <a

When we met Jen to discuss the wedding etc, we got talking about a puppy called Phoenix that we had just bought, but who was too young for us to take home until after the wedding which wasn’t for a few weeks. Jen later asked a few questions about the breeder and claimed her parents were interested in one of Phoenix’ litter and so asked for their number. Several weeks later we returned from our honeymoon and recieved the dvd of our wedding. One of the chapters on the dvd was “message from an absent friend”. We had no idea what it was and so pressed play…. this video is what was on. It turned out that Jen was fibbing about her mum wanting a puppy, and she was getting details of the breeder so she could arrange to view and film phoenix. In the video Phoenix is playing with his mum. If you’re wondering what’s wrong with her eye, she had a prolapsed eyelid from giving birth to Phoenix and his bro’s and sisters. As you can imagine it was an awesome surprise to get this bonus on the already fantastic wedding video. We couldn’t thank Jen enough for what she did and still can’t believe the lengths that she went to, to make the dvd so special. Cheers Jen. Phoenix is an Alaskan Malamute who was only a few weeks old in the vid but who is now 2 and a bit years old and is now 49kg

If you enjoyed this content and would like to read more like it...go here: Alaskan Malamute Quick Facts

Training of a Malamute needs to begun at a very early stage. They are a highly intelligent dog, with dominant personalities that require challenge. Contrary to popular belief, people confuse the stubbornness of a Malamute as being stupid. In actual the fact the opposite is true. Malamutes become bored very quickly due to their intelligence and of picking things up very quickly.

An adult Malamute will pretty much take as much exercise as you can throw at them. Remember, the Inuit Eskimos developed the dogs as sledging or hauling dogs to transport heavy goods over great distances, so their strength and stamina is innate within them.

Some activities that you can try with your Mal include sledding (either snow or dirt or both), weight pulling, backpacking or ski-joring.

With food – just because they are a large breed don’t be fooled into thinking they need vast amounts of food. They don’t! They are an arctic dog, with a survival instinct. They treat each meal as if its their last, and as such have developed an incredibly efficient metabolism which makes their food last a long time.

Finally, as a dominant breed it is important to establish with your Malamute that YOU are the boss. They have a pack order and it is important that your Malamute realizes that you are the top dog. If not, you will end up with many social problems – howling, digging (usually from boredom), jumping on people etc. Also, if you have other small pets (such as cats or rabbits) be careful with these around the Malamute since they has a strong prey instinct.

I have three Malamutes and I would not have any other breed (having previously owned German shepherds). They are a very giving dog and just want to please and work with you. Once you spend “real” time with your dog – through working activities – you will come to understand what I mean.

Subject: Alaskan Malamute

If you enjoyed this content and would like to read more like it...go here: <a

With springtime just around the corner we’ll soon be facing several months of severe weather outbreaks including thunderstorms, hailstorms, tornadoes, etc. Now imagine yourself as a dog, completely unaware of what is happening in the sky above you. You may or may not be scared by any number of other things, but when the sky lights up and thunder crashes against the windows, you’re going to tremble a bit. A dog has no idea why a storm occurs, and almost any dog will whimper a bit when lightning strikes close to home, or the wind starts rattling your doors and windows. The real question here is what you can do about it? What can you do to offer some comfort to your dog?

Knowing When It’s the Storm

It’s important to learn to accurately peg the source of your dog’s anxiety on spring storms. The last thing you want to do is to create ” storm anxiety” by trying to comfort them when a storm rolls through, if in fact they were whining about something else entirely. To do this, make sure the storm is actually in full swing when your dog acts odd. This might be shown in the form of whimpering or shaking. They might try to climb into your bed, or ignore your commands no matter how well they are trained to behave. A dog that is terrified of spring storms will react according to how they feel, and in many cases that means barking, whining, biting, chewing up your furniture, peeing on the floor, and much more.

Dealing with Storm Related Fear

Many people just let their dogs continue to react negatively to the storm. They turn away and let their dogs bark and whine, while at the same time feeling bad for them. Other people will offer comfort to their dog during these episodes, thinking it will help calm them. To effectively help your dog cope with a storm, without creating a problem atmosphere that will create damage around your home, you need to step back and try to be
comforting without encouraging the behavior. To do this, talk to your dog in a calm, relaxing tone of voice, while also making no allowance for any destructive behaviors. The best way to do this is to combine happy tones that will reassure your dog with distractions like playing or treats.

If you can get them to focus on you instead of the weather, the results will often be positive. Another good thing to do here is to give your dog a good place to hide out during the storm. Avoid leaving a dog outside in a storm or putting them in a crate. A dog that feels trapped is almost as problematic as a dog that has a route to escape through. In both cases, your dog may end up getting hurt. Having a special place for your dog to hide will allow them to feel safe, comfortable, and in control of their circumstances, while at the same time being removed from the danger they feel. As a result, your dog become more comfortable and calm. You should also try to drown out as much of the noise as possible with television or music. A dog can still feel the storm outside as they are much more attuned to these things than we are, but distracting them in any ways possible will always help.

Extreme Cases

Of course, the advice above is only for mild cases that can be dealt with through a calming voice and a loving family. As we learn with people alike, some phobias are not rational and cannot be controlled easily. Only if the case is severe enough that your dog tries to hurt itself or becomes too destructive to control, should you contact a vet. However, you can get sedatives and anxiety reducing drugs if it is absolutely necessary that you can give to the dog during severe spring storms.

Above all else, remember the health and well-being of your animal. Put that first and your dog will feel your love, hopefully relaxing during this trying experience. I’m not sure if you’ve seen this yet but before I go, I thought I’d let you know about a new dog training guide
that I recently discovered. It’s called “The Dog Training Tutor“. It contains a cutting-edge training method for putting a stop to all major dog behavioral problems. First of all you should know that it is NOT about:

1. Hitting, scolding or yelling at your dog
2. Punishing your dog at all

What it IS about is:

1. Communicating with your dog by understanding and playing on his natural canine instincts so that he WANTS to obey you and enjoys learning new things

2. Having FUN with your dog!

To find out more have a look at “<a
