Updated 3rd June 2008
There are no operational dogs in Western Australia at present (for the last 6 months) The SES management at RHQ Belmont have put a ban on new dogs joining the unit until they can be assessed to international standards. This was a decision which was made 2 years ago when no new dogs were allowed to join. Since then, as the older dogs have retired, we have not been able to replace them. We are still training and hopefully will have dogs operational in the near future. We were going with New Zealand (international) assessment for tracking. Then we were going with UK (international) assessment for tracking. Now we are working on a standard with the police.
